Polybags, founded by Geoff Davies in 1961, has since grown into the successful PB Group, one of the leading packaging companies in the UK.

[read more] Initially, Geoff manufactured bags from his home garage while his wife delivered products to local customers in a pram, a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit. With school friend Brian Turner as his business partner, the company flourished, expanding and modernizing the production process to drive future success. Brian’s contribution to the company’s efficiency gains was instrumental in PB’s growth.
In the early days, building a business relied on reputation and word of mouth. But after relocating from a rundown factory in Alperton to a new site in Greenford, the company expanded its offerings and continued to produce high-quality packaging solutions. The move proved beneficial, particularly in securing contracts with the Ministry of Defence and the health service, where the company provided bespoke packaging solutions. These relationships continue to this day, and the company’s reputation for delivering tailored solutions remains unmatched. Today, the company’s continued dedication to quality and innovation has solidified its position as a trusted partner for businesses across various industries.

During the 1990s, PB Group experienced significant growth and expansion through a merger with Kings Polythene and Cockshott Films, as well as the expansion of its manufacturing site. The arrival of Jonathan Davies, son of founder Geoff Davies, brought fresh ideas and a drive for innovation. Under Jonathan’s guidance, the company invested in new machinery and achieved external ISO quality standards, further enhancing the company’s reputation. This period also saw PB Group awarded a Royal Warrant, cementing its position as a trusted and reputable packaging supplier.

PB Group was an early adopter of online retail when it launched polybags.co.uk in 1999, a pre-millennium website for customers to purchase products online. This pioneering move reflected the company’s commitment to embracing new technology and providing innovative solutions. Jon Lomax, our Managing Director, joined the business in the early 2000s. He recognized that staff are the foundation of the business and has prioritized investing in both people and technology. This leadership and vision have been instrumental in driving the company’s continued success.

In an effort to prioritize sustainability, PB Group invested in cutting-edge recycling technology at our manufacturing site in Greenford. Our state-of-the-art machinery allows us to reuse nearly all of our waste plastic products, preventing them from ending up in landfills and reducing our overall environmental impact. We also expanded our manufacturing capabilities by opening a factory in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2010. This factory currently employs 70 staff members and reflects our continued commitment to growing and innovating in the industry.

Today we continue to evolve, driven by our guiding principles, the needs of our customers and the changing world around us.
